family cemetery selections

Hi folks,  I had hoped to take care of this months ago... I know the Durham and surrounding area folks decided to buy the marker. Our cousins down east asked to see the images we were working from.

This is the suggestion I gave to Durham Marble Works.

This is the image of the stone type he thought would show details best.
This is the type of stone he thought would work well on our site. It cannot be seen from the front that the stone is rather curved opposite the print side. Over all when I stood beside this example at his business it was about knee height.
slant marker 36"x 10" slopes to 2' at top. 18" tall
lettered as pictured
cost $826.68
He also recommended a granite slab foundation slab 42"x14"
pin the slant to the foundation which will make it less likely to be moved
cost with slant foundation slab  1027.70

The alternative offered was a 36"x18"x6" bevel marker- low to the ground
total cost 916.98

Obviously these are prices from a year and half ago and I'm sure there would be some cost adjustment.

If anyone has a question or an opinion I am happy to get some answers.
As I said I anticipated dealing with this last fall... and surprise it's spring. I now have a five day a week job in Raleigh... lots of life changes, mostly good.

So, let me hear from you and I'll get this project working towards a conclusion

display equipment

Pottery equipment from the Geometrix studio

This is my North Star workhorse slab roller. It's manual, and has been maintained by my husband, who thankfully is a machinist.

Front view, mud splattered.. the little wooden table my dad made to hold my patterns and various things that pertained to the slab roller will be part of the sale.
                         SOLD!
The front view of my North Star extruder. Again, manual, and the extra die package is included.
I have two Skutt 1018 kilns. Both kilns have new digital controllers and both got new elements.
inside view of front kiln. bricks are in decent shape. there are small cracks in the bottom that a little patch will remedy. The inside edge of the top is worn appropriate to age. Overall, both kilns are in good shape, the one I call the front is used a lot more, and has more wear.
Now that the holidays are over I can spend a bit more time cleaning, setting up appropriate lighting so you can see the details much better.
back kiln, which is newer than the front, and mostly due to location, was used as my bisque kiln... both kilns are totally functional, but this one has considerably less overall wear.
as you can see there is one glaze stain on the floor... the inside of this kiln, apart from a few bricks on the floor, is in very good shape.
sorry for the quality, my kiln shed is dark and there's a fence section in front of the building that makes the sunlight glare.

Anyway, here are a few very rough images for your consideration. Let me know if anything is of interest and I'll be sure to clean those up first... since I'm now officially no longer a potter, although truthfully, I've only done about 5 kiln loads in the last two years... hard to believe a few years ago I did pottery full time! I cannot access pictures of my display equipment, but will create another post with those.

Christmas 2014 and a hopeful new beginning. 2014 has been a year of many changes... my life as a potter has nearly come full circle. The last few pieces of bisque are still on the table awaiting glaze. The question is will I?

colorful dragonflies

I've added dark green and dark purple to the basic dragonfly mirror colors. There's another background color coming soon.

Old Family Quilts

I'm finally beginning to sort through old family things that have been stored away for far too long. Last week I found two old quilts on the top shelf of a little used closet. They need a home... I also have several old quilt tops that I have to decide to keep, get them quilted, give them away, whatever...

The first quilt is made for a double bed. There is only one bad spot that I can see. Easily repaired.

The back side of the quilt has a blue floral fabric that's been handquilted.

This quilt has a neat hand tied stitch in the colored stripe. The backside is very attractive.

Random Tile

Earlier in the spring I had fun creating tulips... on mirrors, on picture frames and one tile. I wrapped the tile in bubble wrap and left it on the display shelf... found it last week. It's an orphan... mine until next spring...
